The Goddess Grapevine
March 2008
Greetings to all Goddesses! February flew by and March is already here. Every new
month brings a time for new beginnings. Our women’s group here at Unity Christ Church,
better known as the Goddess Group has been focusing on “new beginnings” at both our
January and February gatherings.
At our February gathering, Carol Haake led the group in a celebration of the Divine
Feminine through the personification of Brigit, an early Celtic Goddess and Christian
Saint. We learned that her day, Imbulc, is February 2nd and is the mid-point between the
winter solstice and spring equinox. That is the time when the days are getting longer and
new shoots are beginning to stir under the earth. We shared what each of us needs to
support the new growth in our own life (new beginnings). Candles and water were used in
this ceremony which was a very moving experience.
In addition to the ceremony led by Carol we celebrated February as the month of love
by sharing readings, which included one of Carol’s very own poems, and “from the heart”
experiences. Plus, Meg McClelland shared with the group that it was her birthday so to
help her celebrate her special day, we sang “Happy Birthday” to her.
Other items discussed included:
Distribution of Daily Word and other Unity booklets that have been collected – Mary
Holloman has been busy contacting many groups and organizations about delivery of our
Unity reading materials. To-date, two have accepted our offer, the Salvation Army and a
prison. If anyone knows of any other groups that may be interested, please let Mary know.
Feed My People – Correspondence was received notifying us of a significant increase
in the number of people needing food help and the shortage of available food in the food
pantry. A sheet for “Donate a Meal A Month with Feed My People” was included as an
easy way for us to be able to donate complete meals for a family of one to three people
for under $10.00. The Goddess Group again agreed to sponsor this for Unity Christ
Church. More information will be made available in the weekly church bulletins and will be
posted on one of the bulletin boards.
Revitalizing the UCC Coffee House – Reminiscing about the many talented people who
shared their gifts at the former “Coffee House” evenings at UCC our group decided that
they would like to bring back something similar in the near future. If you feel the same
way, please let our ministers or board members know.
Women’s Retreat – A mini retreat being hosted by Unity Church of Peace’s women’s
group is in the works plus a trip to Unity Village in the fall is also in the planning stages.

Next Goddess Gathering, Sunday, March 9th – “Ladies Lunch Out” – We will meet at 11:
30 in the foyer and go to lunch together at Felix’s, located at Clayton and Tam, right near
church. We can car pool together or meet there. Watch for more details to follow in the
church bulletins.
If you would like to know more about our group or have ideas to share, please contact
Vicki Salsman, 314-522-3883 (evenings or weekends). Our group usually meets once a
month on the second Sunday of the month in the Art Gallery following the service. We
spend this time together getting to know each other a little better, sharing our thoughts,
feelings, ideas and love of Unity. Part of our goal has been to work together on building a
positive, spiritual connectivity between us and raising the energy level of Unity Christ
Church. We have been accomplishing that with our get-togethers as well as activities and
service projects. The invitation to join us goes out to you.
